Join us as we pray into the new year

Come and join us from January 1 – 5, 2024, between 7:00PM and 8:30PM at Centre Court, located at our Downes Road site. Unite with the community in prayer, seeking God’s blessings upon the new year.

January 1: Day 1 - our hearts

The act of prayer unites two very different realities. The first reality is the truth about the one we address in our prayers. This refers to the Almighty, the one who is responsible for creating the universe and has the power to make nations rise and fall. The second reality is about us, who are small and insignificant compared to the power we pray to. We are reminded of our unworthiness and our failures to show complete allegiance and adoration to the Almighty.

Despite our limitations, we are given access to the Almighty and are encouraged to speak to Him. We are allowed to bring all our cares and concerns to Him because He genuinely cares for us. Most importantly, our guilt and sin have been atoned for by Jesus, which allows us to pray. As we begin this week of prayer, let us not consider it a burden but an awesome privilege to speak before the throne of our God.

January 2: Day 2 - our homes

Our homes are a gift from God, rooted in the creation mandate in Genesis, and foundational for human flourishing. It’s where we nurture and live out our Christian beliefs, values, and worldview in the context of our family, work, and relationships. As we start the new year, it’s essential to take stock and reorganize. It’s a reminder that in our Christian homes, we collaborate with God to build the church and engage with society.

January 3: Day 3 - our church

As you pray for Northview today, remember that we are not simply an outpost for God’s mission to proclaim the gospel, we’re also the beloved of Jesus Christ. Pray that we, together, as Christ’s people, would know and enjoy that love. That we would turn our eyes upon Jesus who gave His own life that we might be His, and who continues to love and care for us every day. Pray that we would be filled with courage for the years ahead not only because His plans for us cannot be thwarted, but because His love for us cannot be stopped.

January 4: Day 4 - Our Community

So let us pray that God would continue to grant us favor in the eyes of our community. That he would make us earnest to do good works and be radical with our hospitality in our love of neighbour. May we also pray that we would glorify him with the favour he grants by boldly and faithfully proclaiming the good news of Jesus so that many will be added to the Kingdom.

January 5: Day 5 - our world

As believers, we may not go through the same level of persecution as those in other parts of the world, but that doesn’t mean we’ll never face it. It’s important to ask ourselves whether we’ve ever experienced the cost of following Jesus and what that has looked like in our lives. If we haven’t experienced any cost, it may be because we’re living our lives too safely and not taking enough risks to share the Good News with others.

Let’s pray for more boldness and for other believers in persecuted regions. Focusing on Jesus who has gone before us, who is victorious, and who is always with us.
