Our volunteers offer their talents and interests to make a difference at home and abroad. We believe that Christians should use their gifts to make a difference in God’s world and are happy to do our part to see the kingdom of God grow and ultimately prosper! Most positions within our thrift store require a great attitude and willingness to serve. There are special requirements for delivery drivers (for insurance purposes) but otherwise we encourage volunteers to sign up and let us know all of the areas within our store they feel they would be able to make the biggest impact. CANUCK PLACE CHILDREN’S HOSPICE- We are currently looking for Peer volunteers to support at our Canuck Place Children’s Hospice, in Abbotsford. Peer volunteers work alongside the professional care team to enhance the quality of life of the child with a progressive, life-threatening condition and his/her family. HOPE FOR WOMEN- Are you looking for an amazing volunteer opportunity?  Do you have a big heart and you love to serve? Do you have the time to make a steady commitment?  At Hope for Women Pregnancy Services we serve clients and their families in Abbotsford, Mission, Aldergrove, Langley, and Chilliwack areas. We are non-medical in nature and do not perform or refer for abortions, but provide free self-administered pregnancy tests, options counselling, pregnancy information and support, ultrasounds, volunteer doulas for birth support, and ongoing friendship through our volunteer peer counsellors. We also provide parenting support, and baby supplies (e.g. diapers, wipes, formula, clothing, etc.) for up to 2 years after the baby is born. Some of us are trained Post Abortion Counsellors so we offer post-abortion care and counselling for women who choose abortion, or for those around her who may have been affected by that decision. All of these services are free and available to everyone who visits our centre and are offered in a completely confidential, safe, and non-judgemental environment. We believe that women deserve to be respected and valued no matter what they choose. We also believe that women have the right to be fully informed about their options so they can make a decision they are comfortable with, not only for the moment they’re in, but for their futures as well. ABBOTSFORD STROKE RECOVERY GROUP- The program runs each Monday and Thursday from 12:30-3:30 pm at the Abbotsford Recreation Centre. Volunteers will work directly with stroke survivors and participate in assisting in the various aspects of the program including: communication, cognitive games, mobility exercises, etc. A big part of our program is encouragement and support. BREAKFAST CLUB HELP- Abby Community School Society is currently looking for some volunteers to help with a local breakfast club at John Maclure Elementary. Looking for considerate/responsible volunteers over the next school year to help provide a nutritious breakfast to some of these families that don’t have a lot. STROKE RECOVERY PROGRAM ASSISTANT- The local Abbotsford Stroke Recovery Program offers a community-based place for stroke recovery. They are designed to improve the quality of life of stroke survivors. CYRUS CENTRE HOUSE PARENTS- Cyrus Centre is looking for a married couple with either no children or grown children who can commit themselves to be full-time house parents. This would suit a couple where one member has outside employment or a retired couple. The Home is in Abbotsford on a bus route in a convenient location. House parents will provide a home environment for youth living in semi-independence, providing skills modeled in day-to-day living, skills necessary to live independently; living in community, cooking, cleaning, budgeting, shopping, recreation, problem-solving, respect of others, laundry and so on, basic day-to-day life skills. The successful couple will be provided with living accommodations, utilities, food budget, financial stipend, benefits, support and more. ON CALL DRIVERS– Inasmuch Community Society provides transitional housing, settlement services, customized employment counseling, and basic living support for up to six months following an asylum seeker’s arrival in BC. Our folks often have to go to Vancouver to meet with lawyers, get their medicals or report to the CBSA.
