In Galatians 6:2, Paul calls his hearers to “bear one another’s burdens.” Just a short while later in his letter, in verse 10, he adds “So then, as we have opportunity, let us do good to everyone, and especially to those who are of the household of faith.”
I know that many of you have a heart to honour and fulfill these calls. I have seen it in action at Central Abbotsford over the past year. It is an encouragement to me to see you loving and caring for one another. Oftentimes, these opportunities arise out of conversations that happen naturally on a Saturday evening, but there are over 200 of us there weekly and, try as we might, we can’t connect with everyone!
Perhaps some of you have the desire and ability to help, but don’t know where to start. If that’s your situation, I have an encouragement for you – there are people within our own congregation at Central Abbotsford who are in a place where they could be lifted up by your ministry and care.
So, if you are in a place where you have something to offer (whether that’s at hand today, or something that could be done in the future) and you don’t know whether there’s an outlet for it, let me know! It would bring me great joy to be able to connect you with one of your brothers or sisters in Christ who is in a place of need that you might be able to alleviate.
I started this message off with a reference to Galatians 6:2, but I didn’t quote the whole verse there; in fact, I left out the best part. When you bear the burdens of another, you “fulfill the law of Christ”. That is a lofty and God-honouring accomplishment and encouragement!
