Last year, in the newsletter for the week before Christmas and New Year’s, I asked the question: “if you were stuck on a desert island with only five books of the Bible to read, which five would you pick?” So this year, I’m asking it again (with a bit of a twist). 

I think it’s a good and thought-provoking question (to be clear, I did not come up with it on my own!). As I wrote last year: “it’s not an easy exercise – and hopefully it’s one that lets you marvel at the fact that God has given us the entirety of His revelation in the sixty-six books of the Bible, so that we might be able to see the full and complete word of God, teaching us all that we need for life and godliness.” 

In the week or so after I wrote that, I remember having a couple of conversations with people from Central Abby about their answers, but here we stand, 52 weeks later, one full revolution of the Sun nearly complete, and the details of those conversations have long floated from my mind, probably replaced by everyone’s names that I have now memorized because of our regular Name Tag Nights!

So, I might have thought it was a good question, but I didn’t give a great opportunity for you to answer – this year, I am seeking to remedy that! If you click this link, it will take you to a quick form that will allow you to submit your answers to the question (you can include your name if you’d like, but don’t feel like you need to). I would be interested to see how much overlap there is, if we have two people that have the exact same five books (or the same five as me!), and which books only get chosen once (I thought about naming some here but I don’t want to influence the answers).
