Eric Heath - June 13, 2025

Summer is almost here. Officially, at least. For those of you who were in attendance at Central Abby last weekend, you will undoubtedly not be too worried about such fine distinctions as to whether the earth has achieved its greatest axial tilt towards the sun, thus meaning that the solstice has taken place and the season has formally changed. All you know is that it was too hot in the Worship Centre!

Thankfully, relief is on the way. This week, some staff and volunteers joined me in loading a stage, some of our technical equipment, and a few other odds and ends into the (air conditioned) gym at Mill Lake Church. Starting next weekend (June 21), we will move our entire service into the gym for the summer!

If you were here last year, you’ll know that this means that we do have some changes to our service that you should be aware of (again, starting next Saturday, June 21):

  • Dinner will begin at 4:15pm (instead of the usual 4:30). Food will be served until about 5:00.
  • When dinner is done, we will need to quickly take down all of the tables and set the chairs up in rows. If you are able to help pitch in with this, it will be appreciated! Last year we were able to get this turnover done in about ten minutes as a team.
  • Dessert will still be in the gym after the service, but we will not set the tables back up. You are welcome to visit in the chairs, or in the foyer.
  • Pre-service prayer will move from the basement to the Worship Centre, and will run from 4:15pm for about 15-20 minutes. Everyone is invited! We will pray for the service, the city, and our people.

Otherwise, we will have worship through song, prayer, and the preaching of the gospel, just as every other week! Hopefully for the next couple of months, though, we can, by God’s kindness and provision, do so in a slightly more comfortable setting!

In His name,

Eric
