Located 100 miles north of Vancouver, British Columbia, Malibu is situated at the mouth of the world-renowned Princess Louisa Inlet. Surrounded by mountains soaring straight out of the water to heights of more than 8000 feet, Malibu is a place of extraordinary beauty and isolation. The medical team members and their family (spouse, and children under 19) stay at camp during the time of service at no cost. Summer Season: From June through mid-August, Malibu is used exclusively by Young Life to run their High School summer camp programs. Each summer Malibu welcomes thousands of High School students from across the US and internationally for the best week of their lives. The services of one physician and one other medical professional (nurse, nurse practitioner, or second physician) are needed to provide medical coverage to our guests, participants in the Beyond Malibu hiking program, and to yachters in distress. School Season: From mid-August to the start of June, Malibu hosts bookings for retreats and conferences for groups of up to 350 people. The prison mentorship program is at the core of the ministry. Men and women volunteers are matched with prisoners to provide a one on one mentorship relationship. Currently we have over 200 volunteers in mentoring relationships and over 300 inmates that are waiting to be match with a community volunteer. We also have volunteer opportunities at our Hidden Treasure Thrift Stores in Abbotsford and Chilliwack. Volunteers are trained and screened to serve in prison as well as at the stores. URGENT HELP NEEDED – If you can spare some time to help at the Hope for Children Thrift Store in Langley it would be a huge blessing and help the children that we support. The Thrift Store is in desperate need of more volunteers. If you can spare even 4 hours a week to help in this ministry it would be greatly appreciated. Their hours are from 9:30am to 4:30pm Monday through Saturday. The store is located at 20211 56th Ave, right in downtown Langley. Volunteers transport clients who are seniors or have disabilities from Abbotsford to out of town medical appointments. SALVATION ARMY – The Salvation Army is looking for volunteers to assist in various capacities at our Abbotsford location. Current opportunities include: preparing and serving lunch to the needy in our Meal Centre (Sat 8:00 – 2:00, Sun 8:00 – 12:00) serving breakfast to and assisting clients in our Drop-In Café (Tues, Thurs, Fri 8:00am – 12:00) serving dinner to shelter clients (Sun, Mon, Sat 5:00 – 7:00pm) assisting with the Seniors Day Program (Wednesdays, 9:30 – 3:30). YPO – Your Pregnancy Options is looking for volunteers to help with peer advocacy for women within the community who are facing an unplanned pregnancy and also to support women by connecting them with vital community resources and services. Becoming a volunteer would mean committing a few hours per week between Monday-Thursday 10am – 5pm. At times we are in need of volunteers to help with specific events and networking with different community organizations and businesses.
