Welcome to Acts + Philippians (Precept upon Precept curriculum)!
This coming 2021/2022 ministry year, we are so excited to be studying the story of the Church!
This past year we have experienced the reality of disrupted gathering and meeting as the Church because of a worldwide pandemic. This caused many of us to search our Bibles and our hearts; what IS the church, why does it exist, when did it begin and what is God’s purpose for it? And then, how shall I, a believer and disciple, live and serve and work with and for the church? In essence, how do I live life as a faithful Christian within the church? In order to know that, I need to understand what the purpose and intent of the church is.
We think this study, starting with the book of Acts, will clarify many of these questions we’ve asked this year. We are praying that the Lord would give us a greater understanding of His mission and our place in it. That we would gain a greater comprehension and appreciation of His established means to meet His people and know the empowered by His Spirit in helping to fulfill the mission.
To complete our year of study we will investigate one of Paul’s letters to a church described to us in the book of Acts; the letter to the Philippians. Philippians teaches us how to think, how to live with joy, how to be a healthy local church.
Acts 1-12 (8 lessons) September to November
Luke’s first account was his Gospel in which he recorded all that Jesus began to do and teach. His second account, we call Acts, or the Acts of the Apostles, in which Luke recorded what happened after Jesus’ ascension to the Father. Jesus sent the Holy Spirit, empowering the apostles to testify to the power of God in salvation and in living every day for the gospel. Learn how God spread the gospel through witnesses of Jesus’ death and resurrection, and from their examples, how you too can witness to others. Stand in awe of the power of God in believers to endure persecution and suffering for the cause of Christ and embrace His power in your life. Be encouraged by the results of faithful servants holding forth truth in a dark world; watch as the church grows numerically, geographically, and culturally.
Acts 13-28 (8 lessons) January to March
Jesus promised His disciples that they would take the gospel to the remotest parts of the earth. Observe Paul’s transformation from persecutor of the church to preacher. Join him on his journeys across the Roman world to proclaim the saving message of Jesus to Jews and Gentiles. Learn how to witness and how to live an authentic Christian life in all circumstances in the power of the Holy Spirit. Learn to be like Paul, to be bold in proclaiming the name of Jesus and to trust our sovereign Lord who enables us to endure persecution and suffering at the hands of those who hate Jesus…and therefore, hate us.
Philippians – How to Have Joy – (9 lessons) March to May
How do I live the Christian life joyfully regardless of people or circumstances? What is the purpose of suffering and the Christian perspective on death? Do I have “the mind of Christ”? Discover true, deep-down joy in your life that the world cannot take away!
