We exist to make disciples through the multiplication of healthy local churches.

Over the past ten years we have seen our numbers at Downes Road growing consistently. We believe strongly in being a welcoming place for any and all to hear the gospel, engage in community and grow in their faith. With our ongoing capacity issues, we are not able to provide a hospitable environment that promotes our values.

In 2018 the members of the church voted to pursue a new building. By God’s grace, we have been granted permission by the City of Abbotsford to build a new worship centre on the Downes Road Campus. The designs are now complete and the plans are being submitted. Our hope is that we will be able to break ground in Summer 2020.

Why are we building?

  • Space. We are consistently overflowing into the hallways. Despite all of our attempts to alleviate space issues, we're still over capacity. Even after we sent over 500 regular attenders to be a part of a church plan in East Abby we were still full. Our growth trend over the past ten years gives us every reason to believe this will only continue to grow.
  • Open Door with the City. Our property falls within the City of Abbotsford's Agricultural Land Reserve which prohibits new buildings from being built. By God's providence, the leaders of this church applied for a building permit to build a new building in 1999. It was approved and the permit is still valid, giving us an open door to build. If we had simply applied to build this building without that preexisting permit, it's almost certain, we would have been denied. There's also good reason to believe that this open door could close in the foreseeable future. It's now or never.
  • Renovating isn't an option. We have explored every option around "making it work" with our current space. No matter how we look at it, there is not an option that makes sense. It would be incredibly expensive to renovate and expand our current space. Even if we did expand our current space, we would only gain about 500 seats. For around the same price, we can add 1000 seats.
  • Spaces to Connect. This new building will include a cafe and a secure children's play area. It will also free up space in the existing building for various uses.

How can you be involved?

Pray for our leaders as they continue to seek the Lord. Ask God how you can be more involved.

Spread the word

Talk about the building with your friends, family, community groups, etc.

This will not happen without the sacrificial support of everyone who calls Northview their home.
