What I do: “I coach majority world church and mission leaders toward building capacities for healthy churches and global mission.” Or, I work for MB Mission in a variety of training roles.
Spouse: Marty Wiens
Children: Beth, married to Isacc Lay, living in Seattle, WA. Kristen, married to Jelmer Krijthe, with two children (Tobias and Zoe), living in the Netherlands.
Angie, single, living in Fresno, CA.
Education: B.A. in Biblical Studies – Fresno Pacific University, M.Div. in World Mission – Mennonite Brethren Biblical Seminary, Ph.D. in Intercultural Studies – Fuller Theological Seminary.
Hope and vision for Northview: I am hopeful that NCC can “hold on” in stewarding the many resources it has been given, including its leadership, favor in the community, material blessings, etc. I am also hopeful that NCC can “let go” by being open-hearted and open-handed with leaders-in-training, financial prosperity, and sending members into new church plants. With sobriety, NCC must prayerfully consider threats and risks as Canadian society becomes increasingly secular and hostile to conservative evangelical Christianity. In this sense I see NCC having a growing role beyond the local church, offering salt and light to our city and our country.
How I got involved with Northview: Initially, we were Northview’s missionaries in Brazil for over 20 years. Upon moving to Canada in 2010, we chose to become members of NCC. Shortly after we made new friends through the Alpha course, assisted with ESL in the Punjabi connection, and have participated in a number of small groups.
A few of my favourite things: With my family I enjoy reading, traveling, international foods, Brazilian soccer, walking/hiking outdoors. Personally, I enjoy gardening, Mennonite history, and spy thriller movies.
Favourite authors: John Stott, David Bosch, Hans Kasdorf as articulators of evangelical and Anabaptist theologies of mission. Andrew Walls, Wilbert Shenk, Philip Jenkins as champions of understanding the church from a global perspective. JB Toews, David Ewert, GW Peters as churchmen and statesmen for the Mennonite Brethren denomination. Reggie McNeal, Ed Stetzer are prophetic voices for Western church leaders to be missional and relevant in North America. Patrick Johnstone, Jason Mandryk as missional futurologists and mobilizers for intercession.
