Missions Projects

Want to get involved in Missions but don't know where to start?

Take a look at some current projects you can be part of...

The MWANZA PROJECT:

The Mwanza Project is a non-profit organization begun in June of 2007 by Jake Janzen of Kelowna and Ken Martens a member of Northview.

The purpose of the project is to raise money to aid orphans and widows in the city of Mwanza Tanzania.

Ken and Jake visited the city in 2007 while on a short term missions trip. While there, a small Baptist church approached them and requested their assistance. This church had a burden for the many orphans and widows which are so plentiful in their surrounding area. This seemed like a real stretch for Ken and Jake but they agreed to go home to Canada and pray, seeking Gods direction. The Lord really confirmed that this was something that they should pursue and shortly after they began the project.  God has been faithful, many friends and family have been a part of the work and we have seen the project grow to 51 children. The children are mostly living with widows or whenever possible extended family, a few of the older children live independently in housing provided by the project. The Project pays for their educational costs, clothing, food, medical care etc. Without help many of these children would be found on the streets begging to survive. The children are also active in the church and their spiritual lives are a huge priority.

In June of 2009 we returned to Mwanza to get firsthand information on the progress being made. We met the children and their caregivers and it was really confirmed in our minds that this was God’s work and we feel blessed to be part of it. The stories of the struggles that these dear people face is hard for us to imagine, for instance Kabula a young girl left to support and care for her 2 young brothers after her widowed mother abandoned them. Kabula is an excellent student and dreams of becoming a teacher one day, without the support of the project her dreams would probably die and she would be left trying to support herself selling vegetables on the roadside or crushing rock to make gravel by hand as many others in that area are forced to do to survive.  We also came to understand the extent of the needs, we are only scratching the surface as far as numbers of those being aided. There are many, many more that could be helped if we had the funds. We will continue to work within our means but we do hope that our message will be received here at home and people will respond.

Looking forward we would like to be able to possibly start some small business enterprises that would sustain the project into the future.  If you would like to be added to our email list or would like more information you can reach me at (JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address)  We are registered with Canada Revenue for income tax purposes.
