Mission Summary

Chris and Elaine have been working with Wycliffe since 1976, in fact they met when they were short-termers with Wycliffe in Brazil. Three of their four children are married and they have five wonderful grandkids.

Since 1983 they have been leading the Bible translation project among Aztec people in southern Veracruz, Mexico. There are about 25,000 speakers of this dialect of the language.

Our vision is that the Word of God be living and active in the heart language of these Aztec people (Heb. 4:12). We are encouraged to see signs of folks enjoying using their own language in their relationship with God and in their fellowship and worship with other believers. Three Aztec men (Plácido, Esteban and Hilario) are currently working with Chris on revising the New Testament translation ready for publication. About 60% is now ready. They hope to finish by the end of 2013.

The book of Luke is available in print, audio and video formats. The team is also heavily involved in working in local schools where there is interest in reading and writing the language. They recently ran a course to train fourteen teachers in the use of the primer they have developed.

Prayer Requests

• Please pray that the churches would be increasingly involved in the process of revision and in using the translation in their services.
• Praise God that several pastors are showing interest and welcoming the reading of Nahuatl Scriptures in their churches. An exciting recent development is that Hilario has a radio “spot” where he is reading the translation and broadcasting songs.
• Please pray for the Aztec team as they work patiently with Chris to get the translation accurate and natural.
