Disaster Relief in Haiti from Hurricane Matthew

Hurricane Matthew struck Haiti with devastating force winds and heavy rain that resulted in massive flooding, destroying roads, businesses, and thousands of homes in less than two days.

Food for the Hungry‘s ongoing work in Haiti means they already have staff on the ground in several rural communities — they are positioned to act quickly and provide exactly what’s needed in the hurricane’s aftermath. Will you help FH provide: food supplies, clean drinking water, shelter, clothing, trauma counseling, and other emergency supplies? Your donation will help Haitian hurricane victims survive the storm’s aftermath and begin to rebuild.

You can donate by visiting: www.fhcanada.org/hurricane-matthew.  If you want more information on how to pray or help, please contact Carissa Youssef at 604.853.4363 or Carissa.youssef@fhcanada.org.

Syrian Refugees – Ways you can help:

Inasmuch Community Society:

Inasmuch Community Society is a transition house for refugee claimants. We house and care for them as they are going through the process to become refugees. They stay with us anywhere from 6 to 8 months until they receive work permits, find jobs, and are able to support themselves. If you like more information contact Dawn-Lynn at dlprediger@shaw.ca.

MCC Canada:

In the region MCC has 27 ongoing projects delivering emergency relief. Through their partners they are providing food and rent assistance as well as essential items such as relief and hygiene kits, clothing and kitchen supplies. MCC is also supporting peacebuilding work, education for displaced children, trauma healing and will provide supplies to keep people warm in the coming winter.

One MCC partner, Popular Aid for Relief and Development (PARD) told Doug Enns, an MCC representative for Lebanon and Syria, that “MCC’s sustained food security for these families, over two years ongoing, along with education for their children have given them a sense of dignity, hope and reason to hang in there while they wait to return home to Syria.”

The Canadian Government will match donations from individual Canadians to relief efforts in Syria made between September 12th and December 31st 2015. You can help provide vital humanitarian relief by donating to MCC’s Syrian and Iraq crisis response online at mcccanada.ca/syria-iraq or call toll-free 1-888-622-6337.

Food For The Hungry:

Over the past four years, we in Canada have watched with horror as the political crisis in Syria spiraled into uncontrolled chaos with no end in sight. In the past year, terrorist groups have spread violence from Syria across Northern Iraq, threatening the fragile stability of Kurdistan and resulting in an increasing number of refugee camps.

Food for the Hungry Canada has been working in collaboration with various governments, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), and Canadian churches to respond to this horrific crisis. Last March we sent a 40-foot container of medicine to Internally Displaced People (IDP) camps in Kurdistan (region at the Northern tips of Iraq/Syria) and are preparing to send several more containers of relief supplies for these struggling families.

You can help Food for the Hungry provide desperately-needed food and medicine to Syrian refugees, most of whom are women and children. Together we can be the hands and feet of Jesus. Together we can deliver hope to tens of thousands of Syrians.
