What I do: I have the amazing privilege of walking alongside women as they seek to know God better, and to live their lives in obedience to His word. This job is a perfect combination of all the things I love to do – teaching, building relationships, reading, researching and learning more about God and His ways in the world.

Spouse: God knew what He was doing when he lead me to Bob Toews – my husband since 1990. Bob keeps me grounded when I could become too idealistic, and makes me laugh, relax and let go, when I’m tempted to take on too many of the world’s problems all at once.

Children: My kids have taught me more than I ever thought possible about God and life, and about how to maneuver through both pain and joy. We have been through a lot together and I am so thankful for them. Clayton (born 1996) Jessica (born 1998), and Trevor (born 2000) keep us driving to hockey and volleyball games, and youth events. We love watching learn to serve the church.

Education: I went to Bradner Elementary, and MEI Secondary, and then completed a Bachelor of Arts in English Literature through the University of the Fraser Valley and later Simon Fraser University. I planned to become a schoolteacher, but along the way became certain that God had a different path for me.

As a young mom, I had opportunity to attend and then lead women’s Bible Study groups and this experience confirmed God’s call upon my life. I actually LOVED lesson prep – imagine that! I am currently taking Seminary courses at Regent College with the goal of completing my Master of Arts in Theological Studies.

A few of my favorite things: Early morning conversations with God as I spend time in His Word, reading, quiet walks in the woods, being together with friends and family, golfing, waterskiing, jogging, German Shepherd dogs and camping.

Favorite author: As a teenager and young adult, my faith journey was most influenced by the books of Catherine Marshall. I love reading dusty old English Literature – Jane Austen, Elizabeth Gaskill, Charles Dickens, and George Eliot. My favorite theology and Christian-life books are “Knowing God” by J.I. Packer, “Sacred Marriage” by Gary Thomas and “Lectures to My Students” by Charles Spurgeon.

A Favourite Scripture: all of Psalm 139 but especially verses 5-6: “You hem me in – behind and before; you have laid your hand upon me. Such knowledge is too wonderful for me, too lofty for me to attain.”

AND all of Romans 8 but especially verse 31: “What, then, shall we say in response to this? If God is for us, who can be against us?” and verses 38-39: “For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present not the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all of creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
