We have worked in Esperanza for the last 4 years, on the Westcoast of Vancouver Island. Esperanza means “hope” in Spanish and many have indeed found hope there. No longer a medical mission, Esperanza, its staff and volunteers, remain steadfast to the calling of community, refuge and service.
I’ve just spoken with representative from the Canadian National Baptist Convention (CNBC) and we spoke about working together in church planting in the surrounding villages on the west coast of Vancouver Island; church planting in the sense of seeking out the believers that are already there and equip them to plant their own church. CNBC is not looking to place their stamp on to the churches but support the churches that will spring up. However, there is no financial support yet to allow this to come to fruition. I’m excited about this and it seems that several gatherings are lining up with the same focus.
• That God would strengthen us to do the work; bless us with the insight to see what is needed.
• That we are able to hook up with key people that have the same desire and expertise in different areas needed to make this happen.
• Pray for the villages that we will be going into (within the Nuu-chah-nulth Nation), even across the country and beyond.
• That financial support will flow in.
We also have a friend from Israel that would like to come and visit my people in our village and share the gospel of Christ. The visit will be some time in the near future, but we still don’t know when. If my friend can make it into my village, I will go with him to introduce him to my people - in our village, in the nearest city, where a good portion of the First Nations people live from the surrounding tribes, and then about 110 kilometers south in a city called Terrace, where my hereditary responsibilities lie - again, this city has First Nations people from all the surrounding tribes in that area. When I get the info from my Israeli friend, I will inform the churches at home and make the arrangements.
