Abbotsford/Mission Best Five Restaurants

OK, so I have been here for over 2 years now and I have had the dubious opportunity to visit many of Abbotsford’s eating establishments. So, here are my best five lunch spots. Mock me if you will. Disagree with me if you will. But, here are my current top five…

Oh yeah - before I begin, I need to tell you that my choices here do not include overpriced restaurants like Milestones or Earls. $15 for a salad? Really?

5. Safeway Deli - They probably have the best sandwiches in the city. Cheap and no one asks you to leave a tip.

4. Pita Pit - Healthy and some good daily specials. They used to have a frequent flyer card, but they got rid of it. The knowledge that you are eating stuff that won’t kill you immediately is reward enough, I guess.

3. Me n’ Eds Pizza - This one is new to the city and it is a welcome addition. Great pizza and good salads. The location is just hard to get into and out of (on the corner of Marshall and Sumas Way), but if you can manage it, you will be rewarded with some good tastes.

2. Hana Sushi - I used to despise sushi, but no longer partly because Hana makes it taste good instead of like seawater. The lunch box is a good deal with lots of different flavors to keep you interested. They have this daily special part of the lunch box that does cause me a bit of fear, though. I never know what it is until I eat it (and even then I’m not sure what it is most of the time).  It’s kind of like my own personal Fear Factor. Good times.

1. Embers - This is a little place in Mission that is cheap and outstanding. Their Portugese Beef sandwich called the “Prego” is worth the drive. I have no idea why more people don’t eat there, except that it is totally tucked away behind a motel and no one really knows about it.

So, those are my current favorites. What am I missing?

Presto (Pesto?)Cucina - @ the 5 corners
Great food!  Refillable pop at the pop dispenser (my kids love that!) But the best thing is that you pay first and then they bring you your food.  So, it is great for meetings because you can eat, discuss and then leave when you need to be at your next appointment.
AND great gelato next door!

Restaurant review in the church blog!?!?!?!?
Jeff are you running out of material?
And by the way you forgot Oriental Village…. best Chinese food EVER! :D

You must not have experienced Mitch Miller’s eggs benny, seeing as it is not on your list. Local, young guy trying to make a break, corner location down in the “heart-beat” of our fair city. Tasteful in food and atmosphere. The most recent family tradition.

#5. Safeway Deli? Really?

I think a restaurant needs to have seats to be called a restaurant.
…and don’t tell me that seat that your mom straps you in, in the shopping cart, is actually a seat.
…neither the plastic horse that runs if you put in a quarter.

The other 4 I can go with… but I think you need a new number 5.

Glad you discovered Embers. It is a great little place and good value. You should also check out Eleni’s which is a Greek Restaurant on the main drag in Mission.
Really enjoy your sermons, Jeff!

Jeff… if you want Safeway deli as one of your top 5 I’ll give it to you, after all, it’s your blog and we’re reading it! No one has ever asked me for my opinion or cared, so there you go.

For a real treat for lunch I just found Tracycakes in downtown Abby. Jeff, you may feel a lot like the video last Sunday with the men at Serendipity Tea, Tracycakes is very girly, but I was happily surprised with their grilled sandwiches for lunch. They are GOOD! My parents enjoyed quiche and Shepard’s pie, while my kids had grilled cheese. The cupcakes for dessert are a treat, especially if there is a little one around. Maybe you can try it to go!

Love the blog idea.

I agree…Safeway isn’t a restaurant. Have you tried Hot Tommy’s (on Townline across the freeway)? Tucked away little place (might even be called a dump). They have the most amazing roast beef sandwiches. And Cheryl’s cafe is just down the road from it…fresh, healthy, homemade soup and sandwiches.

Sharon I would like to hear your opinion and I care!
