Love

Outside the Walls

It has been about two weeks since the documentary Outside the Walls was released. If you haven’t yet seen it, you can view the film, by going to http://www.outsidethewallsfilm.com, click the “Watch the Film” tab, and enter the password “OTW.”
The film has been shown two different ways – the first preview screening event and the weekend services at Northview Community Church.  One of the commonalities between both of these showings was without a doubt the great questions that were raised.  Unfortunately, we had a relatively short period of time available and as a result some very important questions were raised that we were not able to address at all.  I wanted to briefly respond to some of those questions here.  The following reflections are not necessarily definitive, in that they are absolutely true, nevertheless I will give my best effort to answer them.

Cleaning the Sheets

Dear Friends,

I could hardly wait to attend the PNE this year. For those of you who don’t live in the Fraser Valley, PNE stands for Pacific National Exhibition, Vancouver’s annual Fair. Like every fair there are rides and shows and food and marketplace booths. I was going for the marketplace booths.

You see, at last year’s fair I saw bedding sheets for sale. These were no ordinary bedding sheets; these were Egyptian cotton bedding sheets. And they weren’t just Egyptian cotton bedding sheets; they were 1200 count Egyptian cotton bedding sheets. As you can tell I love bedding, soft, luxurious, melt-into-the-bed, bedding, and these sheets promised that and more.

She Loves Together

Dear Friends,

A new fall season has begun. The new theme for Women’s Ministries at Northview is she loves together.

We know that as men and women, the more we engage with each other around common interests and serving opportunities, the more God’s love is visible in us and through us to our world.

So why don’t we love our world more? I can name a few of my own reasons:

Making Amends

Dear Friends,

You have heard me talk about what I have been learning through Freedom Session in a few devotionals. A couple of weeks ago we were given two tools that I want to recommend to you. It is my hope that you will use these tools to gain your own freedom and, if you have children, to help them gain theirs.

The author of Freedom Session says that the word “can’t” means one of two things, either you won’t or you don’t know how. Let me say it again. Saying “can’t” means either that you won’t or you don’t know how. This certainly applies to making amends for what we have done.

She Loves

Dear Friends,

This year’s Women’s Ministries Theme – She Loves – certainly captured our imagination. We learned about and internalized the love of Jesus, the One and Only. We sought God for ways to give that love away:
• The weekly Prayer groups gave love through intercession.
• The Swap loved through sharing what we have.
• The Home Tours gave love through the Abbotsford Food Bank.
• The Christmas Party gave love through Best for Babies.
• The Beth Moore Simulcast gave love to women in our community and in Guatemala.
