Guatemala: Day 2

Alright, so…today’s blog is from Amelia and Dominique (moms we know you’re happy!). We’re supposed to blog about what we did today even though the day is only half over, but the schedule got a little mixed up today.  Right now in Guatemala it’s 3:48pm. We got up today at 6:00am…a half hour passed without us even noticing. Then we had breakfast, which was a delectable sampling of Guatemalan culture. Banana pancakes and fruit (fruit is important here). Then we got to visit the kids in the school we’re working with, and joined them for morning praise and devotions. First, they are adorable, second, they sings well and even act out the words. Third and final, THEY HUGGED US ALL! It was like it was hug a Canadian day. I am bringing one home with me mom, just a heads up. Then we got to tour Antigua. That was an adventure.

Guatemala: Day 1

Well we made it here safe and sound, and are now just getting ready to settle in for some good siesta time!  Our plane arrived in Guatemala City at 11:50am, and after some long explanations to immigration and customs re: the Gleaners soup we were bringing across, they finally let us through the gates and into Guatemala!

Katrina, Louis and another hermano (brother) picked us up, loaded the gear…which was quite a site…I think we’ll have a picture of it up soon…wasn’t sure it was all gonna stay on the truck, but by the grace of God, all the luggage made it with us.  The drive took about an hour, and when we arrived in Tizate, we were quickly introduced to our host families, who were anxiously awaiting us the village entrance.  After a quick meal and a wardrobe change, we had a tour of the village and school site, where we’ll spend most of our mornings doing some manual labour, toured the current school, and are now heading back for some quick debrief before we all call it a day.
