How Does One Become an Elder?

We want to thank you for expressing your interest in becoming an elder of Northview Community Church.

Together with you, we humbly acknowledge that the desire to serve as an elder within the local church is a calling of God. To this end, we as the Discernment Committee want to walk with you through this important process by:

- Providing you with all the information you need to fully understand the eldership role.
- Praying with you and for you that God’s will can be clearly discerned.
- Entering into and facilitating discussion that allows both you and the Church leadership the opportunity of an informed, Spirit-led decision.

A study conference on the topic of "The Role of Men & Women in the Church"

Overview:

During the past year, the Council of Elders (COE) has been studying the role of the elder as described in the New Testament. As a result of this study, the COE recognizes the need to change the way we operate in order to bring the eldership in line with a more Biblical understanding. One of the changes is the decision to restrict the office of elder to men. This is not meant to preclude women from serving in leadership in the church. In fact, the goal is to expand the presence of women in leadership in Northview in all areas except for the office of elder.

In order to facilitate a better understanding of this topic, we invite you to participate in a study conference focused solely on the topic of “The Role of Men and Women in the Church (and Elsewhere)”. Below is a list of reference material that is recommended prior to the conference.  The conference will present both the Complementarian and the Egalitarian viewpoints and provide time for discussion:

The Middle School Weekend Discipleship Class

For Students in Grade 6-8!

Higher Ground classes take place during the weekend services… Wait to be dismissed from the Worship Center following the singing. Check back here for lesson plans and curriculum.

Higher Ground is on a break for the summer, but will resume again on the weekend of Saturday & Sunday, September 18-19!

The weekly Wednesday night Sola meetings do not run through the summer months. However, there are a few events that are taking place during the summer that you are welcome to come and join in!  Every Sunday there is soccer at MEI at 3:00pm.  Approximately every-other Sunday, there is volleyball/BBQ at Mill Lake at 6:30.  So it really depends on which sporting activity you prefer… but actually you could probably attend both!  Details of some of the events are posted on Sola’s Facebook page – feel free to check that out and join the group.

If you love reading and receiving prizes, then the summer reading program is for you! You will fill in a reading log indicating how much time you read each day. There will be a prize for each log handed in until September 5! In the spring of 2009, Elevate began a missions partnership with Global Shore Opportunities in Tizate, Guatemala.  This relationship began through the connection we had with GSO’s short-term missions coordinator Katrina Janzen (a former Elevate leader and Northview missionary), and has grown ever since.  The first connection in Tizate started with the of sending 47 Spanish children’s bibles for local village families.  During Spring Break of 2010, the vision grew, as Elevate sent its first student missions team to Tizate…and the adventure continues!

- Cross-cultural missions experience working in Christian school, community outreach, building projects, and local church initiatives

A camping trip in sunny Osoyoos complete with friends, boats, worship and more!

This is a perfect chance for you to escape from the Fraser Valley into new terrain. We’ll be heading up to beautiful Osoyoos on June 25-27 for an awesome camping weekend together. Dear Parents:

Be sure your kids have the greatest day ever by going to Avalanche Ranch:  A Wild Ride Through God’s Word!

In this action packed day, your children will be part of a fun Bible learning they can see, hear, touch and even taste!  Bible Point Crafts, team-building games, lively Bible songs, and tasty treats are just a few of the Avalanche Ranch activities that help faith grow into real life.

As kids learn about God’s love, they’ll also enjoy hands-on Bible adventures and a visit from Chaddder Chipmunk. (Since everything is hands-on, kids might get a little messy.  Be sure to send them in play clothes and safe shoes.)  Snacks will be provided. BRING LUNCH. 

Avalanche Ranch is great fun for children aged 2-12 years. The littlest ones to the oldest will have a day they will never forget.  Ages 8-12 will have a great time learning to lead, and serving the younger ones as special helpers!! We’ll be going on a wild ride with Jesus. Yehaww!
