Guatemala: Day 1

Well we made it here safe and sound, and are now just getting ready to settle in for some good siesta time! Our plane arrived in Guatemala City at 11:50am, and after some long explanations to immigration and customs re: the Gleaners soup we were bringing across, they finally let us through the gates and into Guatemala!
Katrina, Louis and another hermano (brother) picked us up, loaded the gear…which was quite a site…I think we’ll have a picture of it up soon…wasn’t sure it was all gonna stay on the truck, but by the grace of God, all the luggage made it with us. The drive took about an hour, and when we arrived in Tizate, we were quickly introduced to our host families, who were anxiously awaiting us the village entrance. After a quick meal and a wardrobe change, we had a tour of the village and school site, where we’ll spend most of our mornings doing some manual labour, toured the current school, and are now heading back for some quick debrief before we all call it a day.

For most of us, we’ve been going strong for some 33 hours straight, without much sleep…so tonight I’m sure we’ll all crash quite nicely, despite the “noises” we’ll all have to get acquinted with!
If you could remember to pray for Isabella and myself, as we’re both feeling the effects of a cold…but hopefully a good night sleep will do the trick. Thanks for your continued prayer and support, and we’ll have a blogging schedule up either tonight or tomorrow morning. we’ll head out to Anigua in the morning and take in the sights of the colonial city, and get things ready for the rest of the week’s ministry adventures (VBS & construction labour Wed-Fri, Kids carnival Saturday).
I think the Lord has already given us a love for the people of Guatemala, and although it may not seem like it your first time down here, I think they have much to offer us…we can’t wait to be used by the Lord, and to see Holy Spirit working in and through us to His children here in Tizate!
All 4 His Call;
Shawn
P.S. Amy, Olivia and Braden…I really miss you guys already, but I’ll see you soon…and I love you “BIG” time!
