Hey peoples its Ryan Baier, Ummmmmm I would just like to say that today was an awesome day of adventure for us we basically ate, worshiped, worked for the lord, ate, swam, ate, played, and praised god once again and ended it off with an excellent moment of prayer.
I know what you’re thinking uhh why is it that short? Well I like to keep things short and sweet but today I will tell you more so this morning me and Daniel woke up to Shawn’s phone singing something like wake up Daniel and Ryan because the lord loves you, accept it was Shawn’s voice and he was singing. Any way we worked at this food bank, cleaning the kitchens and whatever else we could do. We got a lot of work done and the people there were so appreciative of what we had done for them.

Bonjour tout le monde!
So, believe it or not I am in Montreal! And boy am I in love with this city.
This is the lowdown for the day…pour jour sept:
We had a guest speaker this morning, Duane. He and his wife have been working in the downtown Montreal area for 16 years, loving the poor. His love, compassion and understanding of the poor is amazing. I think it touched all of our hearts. He said things like “Helping the poor is not just about giving clothes and food, but God asks us to give ourselves as well” and “Don’t look through your eyes, but the eyes of Jesus. Don’t see the sins of a person, but what they can be once they have Jesus” ...read Isaiah 58:10.
It was also our second day of assignments. We were at Le Hutte again today, which is a transition house for homeless men, women, and families. They stay for about a month, and right now they have about 13 residents. Anywho, we’ve been painting and cleaning and such things. (Yes Shelby, I’ve been painting, and you would be proud of my patience and enthusiasm!) So I painted a closet today. And I pretty much feel like it’s my closet now… I think I did a sweet job. And it was nice to have my own space…so it was kinda like a time for me and God. Basically we are trying to touch peoples’ hearts with our actions…that the people that step into these rooms we have painted and cleaned, that the people who gaze upon the beautifully weeded gardens will be blessed by our contributions and ultimately come to know Jesus in the long run.

Day 6…well we are now entering into a different phrase of the mission here. For the past few months we’ve trained together as a team, done fundraising, prepared, prayed, planned…and over the past few days we’ve entered into the orientation phrase of immersing ourselves as best we can in this culture.
We worshiped with other believers in church on Sunday, and connected with the L’Intersection church family during a picnic. We’ve had a Soar commissioning and foot washing experience, and yesterday started our first day of a week-long ministry assignment in Terrebonne. Now the fun begins!
At the conclusion of our day, many were tired, sick and now starting to get a little discouraged about the rain (it’s rained for 3 days straight, and somewhat affected our ministry day yesterday). We’ve been asked, on several occasions, to adjust our Soar schedule due to the private day camp being held at College Notre Dame, and are “forbidden” to dialogue or engage in conversation with the campers or staff. Adding to that is a film crew here shooting a movie, and because they basically pay $6000/day to film here, they have the run of the place and can interrupt our schedule whenever is necessary for them.

As I sit here with the pain of the handcuffs straining against my wrist, as i try too break away I remember the words that pastor shawn said to me “blog and you may be released…for your life” soo know I must let you know of the terrorsm of…...
Nahhhh im just jokin, its me daniel sparrow J I’m actually quite proud to blog cause I want everyone to know how everything’s been going, and to tell yah the truth it has been amazing.
I mean words cannot describe how exhausted I am when I wake up every morning, but it’s all worth it for the fantastic day that is ahead of you, but I assume P.Shawn wants me too talk about today soo I shall.
K soo its Day 5…good start Daniel…K thxx…Anyway sooo me and Ryan wake up at like actually like 8 exactly and from there we find out we have to leave at 8:30 soo we get ourselves up and ready. It takes us a bit to get ready but next thing ya know we are up and down stairs and sitting eating our breakfast, when all of a sudden Meg comes over to us and says “we gotta leave in 5 mins soo grab your stuff and lets head out” (not actual quote tehe), and the thing is me and ryan had only just started our breakfast (not even we just sat down). So this meant drastic pace, soo we continued to eat our breakfast in under 1 minute and head out to Terrebonne for church (turns out everyone had ate already earlier, great bus ride).
So we watch the service and enjoy Shawn’s wacky and inspiring actions, mingle with the people of Terrebonne, and eat and eat and eat and wait and eat and wait and eat.

At this morning’s session the speaker talked about evangelism. Phillip Serez spoke first, and then after a break a woman from France named Aurora spoke with her beautiful France accent. Having a translator is totally normal for us now. It was good for us to hear about evangelism since that, and the language barrier, are what scares our team the most. For lunch we had pizza…it was probably the best lunch we have had so far. After lunch all the church teams met with their assigned church they will work with for the week. Ours is L’intersection, which is in Terrebonne, and we met up with pastor Patrice Nagant and his wife, who lead the church. They talked to us about what our assignment week is going to be like.
From 1:30-5 we had ministry training. Each person got to pick two categories they wanted training in. Some of the categories were praying for cities, worship, manuscript bible study, park ministry and face painting. We did one for the first half and one for the other. The second one I did with Northview’s Amy Klassen leading, it was called Jars of Clay. It was about not having to be perfect and letting God through the cracks and holes in your jar (life). One of the verses that we talked about was 2 Corinthians 4:7-12 “But we have this treasure in jars of clay to show that this all-surpassing power is from God and not from us. We are hard pressed on every side, but not crushed; perplexed, but not in despair; persecuted, but not abandoned; struck down, but not destroyed. We always carry around in our body the death of Jesus, so that the life of Jesus may also be revealed in our body. For we who are alive are always being given over to death for Jesus’ sake, so that his life may be revealed in our mortal body. So then, death is at work in us, but life is at work in you.” I really think this verse relates well to missions.
