Guatemala: Day 9

The kids in the school run by Global Shore here in Guatemala learn a new memory verse each week and this week’s is Psalm 5:11:

“Alégrense los que buscan tu protección; canten siempre de alegría porque tú los proteges.  Los que te aman, se alegran por causa tuya”

“But let all who take refuge in you be glad; let them ever sing for joy.  Spread your protection over them that those who love your name rejoice in you”.

Today my roomies, Kourtney and Chantelle, and I had the fulfilling task of working construction in the morning.  Global Shore is building a new school to accommodate more grades and we have the privilege of helping them reach their finish deadline of January 2011.  The location of the new school is on the top of a hill (read: mountain) with an incredible view of the surrounding hills and mountains and almost no shade.

Guatemala: Day 8

Okay. Blog number two from Dominique and Amelia. It’s extremely hot today; it’s close to 30 degrees. School started again yesterday, so we started the day off with devotionals with the kids. They are the most amazing inspiration. Then we had some personal prayer time. After that we split into our smaller work teams. Dominique was in prayer and I got to do the drime. We actually made a drime to show the gospel message. It is extremely powerful and hopefully everyone will be able to see it! The V.B.S was really difficult because some of our team is sick. Isabella has a sore throat and Nic is feeling a little ill along with Daniel. We’re dropping like flies (of which there are a lot of) so we need prayer. Wait, yes there’s the prayer! We didn’t really do much so I have no idea what to write. We had a good team time, we really bonded. The prayer is amazing. We all really get along, which is just such a blessing. I really have no clue what else to talk about.

Guatemala: Day 7

Meow (Ola) from Guatemala!

Hey Northview, it’s Nicky Wilson…how are you? Are you doing alright without me? I’m having a pretty crazy experience down here…thanks for asking. It’s been a huge challenge for me I honestly didn’t think it would be this hard. I got really really really sick on Tuesday and had explosive fiery liquid coming out of every hole in my body (bad image). After that I couldn’t really eat for 4 days, just the smell of food was making me sick, I felt so bad because I thought my host mom thought it was her cooking. I’m feeling much better now, its ruined Mexican food for me but whatever, anything for Jesus:D.

Guatemala: Day 6

Saturday.
Alright, this post is a day late (sorry… I am pura Guatemalteca. That’s how we roll down here…)
Mucho Gusto, mi nombre es Kat(rina), and I am host to your fine youngsters here in Tizate. There was a gap in the blog schedule, so I volunteered to fill the “Saturday” slot.
Saturday: started with the Best Carnival this town has ever seen!!!!! (A HUGE thank-you to Robin Dueck and Nancy Friesen who, I understand, had a hand in donating supplies and organizing this event). One thing that was totally unprecedented was the appearance of several mothers with their infants…not a crowd that usually comes out to things, but the carnival attracted a LOT of attention because it was so FUN! My headcount was 70 or so Guatemalans. Pretty incredible.

Guatemala: Day 5

HEY! So it’s Denika and Isabella here!!!! Were haveing an amazing time!!! Denika will go first then Isabella. So here we go.

Denika- Okay, dad FIRST of all, WAIT for pictures!!! we’ll be back in a week and its sort of a hassle to upload lots and lots. And we do have lots and lots smile SECOND!! Nicky and Kourtney are feeling ALOT better, thank God. But now both Brandie, Amelia and Nick are not doing so hot. Pray, please pray. At devotionals this morning all of the kids gathered around us and prayed for our health, it was truely amazing. All the kids at the school have such a heart for God, in their worshiping and in prayer. I think I speak for all of us when I say that we are humbled by the love that these kids have. The woman that Isabella are staying with is named Maryanna, and her grandson Freddie. They are both very nice and super accepting, communication is a little hard, but were doing okay. I haven’t done construction yet, that next week, but im pretty excited, the school that they are building is going to AMAZING!!! Our team is really getting a lot closer, and I am soooooooooo grateful for that. I love our team, and i have also fallen in love with Tizate. okay on to Isabella. And I miss you all a lot!!!!!!!!!!!!
