The Rice Raiser February, 2012

The Rice Raiser Campaign is a youth mobilized community event designed to address hunger. The vision is to inspire this generation to actions of generous love to eliminate hunger locally and globally.

To feed this generation is a challenge we must all face together especially in these tough economic times. That’s why Northview women are participating. We encourage your help:

1. Learn about it. Hunger is a tremendous global problem and is everywhere, even in our own community. Visit http://www.riceraiser.org to find resources that you can look up and learn more. Visit the Rice Raiser Global Partners websites and others to learn. Then respond, as God leads.
2. Bring Food – bags of rice and canned food. All the food stays in our community to help those in need through the food bank.
3. Collect and donate money -100% of designated funds go to four different developing countries to help people globally. Some of the global projects are matched at a rate of $3 to $1 and $4 to $1 by the Canadian International Development Agency! What a way to maximize your donating dollars!! 4. Help our youth learn about hunger in their world! Encourage your child’s school or club to participate.

A Walk for the Rice Reason

Hunger Response International’s 2nd Annual Walk to acknowledge the world’s hungry people for World Health Day.

WHAT: Skip your dinner and walk 10km around Mill Lake. When you’re finished Have A Rice Day by enjoying a bowl of rice that has been prepared by Abbotsford Kiwanis Club.

WHEN: Thursday, April 12, 2012, 3:00 PM - 7:00 PM. Check-in time and warm up is 3:00 PM. Rally begins at 3:30 PM. Latest start time is 6:00 PM.

WHERE: Mill Lake Park, Abbotsford BC. Mill Lake Road entrance. (Rain or shine!) Participants will walk or run approx. 10 km around the lake (this works out to be about 5x around). You can also choose to do a shorter, 5 km walk if preferred.

COST: A bag of rice, sealed and unopened. Plus:

Individual Rate: $25.00 per person
Family Rate (3+): $60.00
Team Rate (5+): $100.00
