The word of God is relevant and able to speak into the lives of young adults. Every third Wednesday of the month, by God’s grace, you will be taught from the Bible. The teaching ministry ingredient to our Wednesday nights is crucial to the spiritual formation of the young adult. The ministry of the word is imperative in a world where truth is up for grabs. Decisions and choices are enormous at this stage of life. The word of God is our blueprint for life.
“For the word of God is living and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.” [Hebrews 4:12]
NT Wright, in his book ‘For All God’s Worth’, writes that ‘Worship’ derives from ‘worth-ship’: it means giving God all he’s worth. At the Sola large group evenings that meet once a month we spend time in corporate singing, reading of Scripture, and prayer, believing that God is worthy of our devotion.
“I will sing of the Lord’s great love forever; with my mouth I will make Your faithfulness known through all generations.” [Psalm 89:1]
We want to be a generation that broadcasts the significance of the Gospel to our families, co-workers, friends, and everyone we meet. And it begins with the desire to live lives of worship!
What is a Pastorate?
Pastorates are a congregation-sized gathering of between 25 and 35 people who meet bi-weekly on a mid-week evening at a home in the city to connect with others through sharing a meal and worshiping in song, prayer and study together.
How Do I Join A Pastorate?
Northview’s Young Adults ministry currently has 5 pastorates that meet bi-weekly. These pastorates consist of Young Adults from 18-30 year old both singles and marrieds as well as middle-aged host/mentor couples.
If you would like to be a part of one of the Sola pastorates please contact .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) at the church office.
‘And so in the judgment day, the inquiry will be made not into our opinions or professions alone, but into our deeds, as proving the correctness of our faith and the sincerity of our professions.’ - George Bethune
Bethune, an eighteenth century preacher, is echoing James chapter 2 which says, ‘What good is it, my brothers, if someone says he has faith but does not have works? Can that faith save him? If a brother or sister is poorly clothed and lacking in daily food, and one of you says to them, ‘Go in peace, be warmed and filled,’ without giving them the things needed for the body, what good is that? So also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead.’ We believe in Faith in Action for the sake of the Gospel!
Here at Sola we want to be missionaries throughout the world but also right here in our own city. Here are some local and global opportunities:
Global Mission
Last summer we sent a team of young adults on global service projects to Thailand. We are in planning for next year, be sure to check back here to see where we will be going and how you can get involved. If you are interested please be in prayer about it and contact .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address).
Local Mission
Because of the glorious Gospel we want to minister to our city through the commitment of time and service to the people of Abbotsford.
Contact Sola Director .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) and schedule a time to meet with her regarding how you can volunteer with an organization in the community such as Salvation Army, Union Gospel Mission, Cyrus Centre, M2W2, MCC, Youth For Christ or a number of others. Check out our service resource brochure, which highlights local organizations who need volunteers.
